Nexus Q delayed; pre-orders will still get their Nexus Q now, for free
By Thom Holwerda on 2012-07-31 23:58:23
Google had delayed the launch of the Nexus Q - but it's not as bad it may seem. Everybody who pre-ordered will still get their Nexus Q right now, with the same feature set as advertised - but instead, they will get it for free. Future consumers won't be able to order for now, as Google improves the device. Did anyone here actually order one of these? It seems rather useless.

Some people like it

But with a audiophile- and "partly "made in USA""-tax it is too expensive.

A friend has one. Got it at Google I/O. He's unimpressed. Maybe they're holding it up until it's a more compelling device.

It is an amazing device, if you are looking for something that can play google streamed music on low powered analog speakers. It is, without a doubt, the best device for that use.

Unfortunately, I think the only ones excited about that feature set are the designers themselves.

They are probably having trouble removing the Beta tags - those things can be pretty sticky.

Raspberry Pi
By FunkyELF on 2012-08-01 20:14:08
I heard that Raspberry Pi is getting Android 4.
If that is the case, I think all the Pi would need is a good USB DAC and NFC (they make those in USB yet?) to make it feature complete with the Nexus Q.

Hell, if the Nexus 7 had HDMI output it could function as a Q.... perhaps the Q is the reason the Nexus 7 doesn't have HDMI output.

I love the hardware and physical design concept but was waiting for either google or 3rd parties to open it up (DLNA, FLAC) before buying.

Unimpressed enough to give it away? :)
