Microsoft unveils its new logo
By Thom Holwerda on 2012-08-23 14:00:35
For the first time in eons, Microsoft has changed its logo. "The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol. For the logotype, we are using the Segoe font which is the same font we use in our products as well as our marketing communications. The symbol is important in a world of digital motion. The symbol's squares of color are intended to express the company's diverse portfolio of products." Nice logo, clean, concise. With Windows Phone 8, Office 2013 and Windows 8 on the way, the company could use a fresh coat of paint. Confusing that they're using what would've been a better Windows logo than the Windows 8 logo, but alas.

New logo looks like...
By Dekonega on 2012-08-23 14:59:58
The Microsoft's new logo looks like a logo of some popular toy or candy manufacturer. It has bright colours and very soft font.

I would wait
By ebasconp on 2012-08-23 15:37:59
If I would be Microsoft, I would wait to see if my new Metr... err... Windows UI style and Windows 8 is successful before "burning my brand" using that so flat design.

By the way, I prefer the gray tones of UI and logos of Apple rather than the rainbow-esque new MS style.

stylization
By judgen on 2012-08-23 16:00:13
Stylization of a brand usually means bad things afoot. Lets hope it is not true in this particular case.

Also i think it is rather ugly, I much more prefer the NT3 windows flag to those four coloured lego pieces.

Logotype confusion
By Nth_Man on 2012-08-23 18:08:58
"Logo" means "word" (from the latin "lŏgus" and that from the greek "λόγος"). But nowadays some people add confusion to all that, for example saying "logo" when they mean "logotype" and Microsoft says now:
> "The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol".
